For some weird reason, I've had this obsession about going to Disneyland Paris for the last year or so. No idea why. I went to Disneyland in the US ten-ish years ago. I had a good time but not SUCH a good time that I would go, like, in France. But still, I couldn't kick my desire to go.
So my thirty hour layover in Paris was the perfect excuse to finally put this to bed.
After I checked into my hotel, I went off on my own little adventure. It's pretty cold today....and rainy...but I dressed warm. (A little piece of me....wanted to stay back and go to the spa.)
First I had to buy my train tickets. TGV and SNCF - I hate you guys. Seriously. The last time I used the trains in Paris was in November, and I actually had a fight with the ticket agent. This time was easier, but still kind of confusing. I kinda sorta thought I had figured it out... but, well, I guess not.
Good news - the train ride to Disneyland is only 10 minutes. Bad news - the return tickets cost 50€. Ouch.
When I got off the train - I couldn't see where to go. Like, there weren't any signs or anything.
But why use signs? All I had to do was follow the trail of crying children screaming, But, I don't WAAAAHHHHNNNAAA LEAVE!!!
(So not joking there.)
I find my way to the ticket booth. A one day ticket - 74€. I've been in France less than two hours and I've spent over a hundred euros. Fahhhbulous.
I start walking around. But it's like....mega cold. So, I go in and buy a touristy and expensive Mickey Mouse hat and gloves (pictures to come later. They are awesome).
But, I'm not really feeling the Disney magic? Maybe it's because...it's so cold that I can't feel my extremities either?
I got lost and found my way onto the Pirate's of the Carribean ride. That was fun!
But it's so weird - there are little kids with snowsuits on, and then when they get inside, they have to take them off because it's too warm. The whole winter-Disneyland thing...doesn't make a whole lotta sense.
I was JUST about to leave...and I saw HIM. Mickey. All decked out. I went over, but his body guard said he had time for just one more picture and there was a long line up of people. Come on, Mickey!! Don't let me down. I'm wearing a freaking Mickey hat and Mickey gloves and I look like I'm super special!!! Nope. There was a little girl in a wheelchair that he chose. Jeez.
So I walked around. Cold. And I had an okay time, and I'm glad I went because now I can quit wishing that I would go every time we stop over in Paris.
Because I was cold, wet, and tired (and like REALLY WET!), I decided to leave earlier than originally planned....which of course resulted in more money spent with TGV and running around the train station again and again. (At least I got some exercise in today!). Did you know that Charles De Gualle Airport is NOT in Paris? Maybe this was obvious to everyone else but me... but I found that out today - when I was in the "wrong" line up. Seriously. TGV....you are on my hit list.
Ohhhhhh, well. I had some fun. I finally know what Disneyland Paris is like. I knew it would be pricey....anything in Europe is - but it is like CRAZY expensive! (Like, more than a day at the spa...)
I know, I know, my life is so SOOO rough. :P
(I'll post some pictures up this week!)
