I don't want to make it sound like I cry all day. Even though I'm bothered often by my career uncertainty, I still have a lot of laughs. But today...was a challenge.
And then, the sweetest, nicest staff member came into my office, so very nervously and so uncomfortable and awkward, and invited me to his wedding.

The groom was the first Malagasy to officially laugh AT me to my face. I had just started to try and learn Malagasy and I tried to reply to something someone asked me. Obviously, whatever I said meant something very different, because the sweet, cute, young man (I always feel like he's 17, but he's probably 25 or so), who was so polite and quiet, laughed so hard that he had to put his hand on the desk beside him. (No one would ever tell me what it was exactly that I said...). Then - he realized that he had just laughed and a vaza. And a woman vaza at that! He was mortified and apologized three or four times, but I was just happy to finally see some personality! This was back in the day when everyone was scared of me and no one would even dare look me in the eye.
Anyway, the invitation was an awesome way to end a crappy day. Not only am I excited to go to the wedding, but it kind of kicked me out of my crappy mood. My favorite part? The invitation is made out to Monsieur and Madamme Nicole. I haven't asked Monsieur Nicole what he thinks of his new title. :-)
