A couple in Kananaskis
The last eighteen months have been the most difficult, challenging, heartbreaking, soul smashing eighteen months of my life…BUT, the last four months have been the most transformative & life changing. I'll share my journey one day. When I do, I know there will be others that can relate (or at least enjoy reading about it), but it’s not time yet.
While I’ve been going through hell & back a few times…lately, I’ve been blessed with some amazing memories…and these need to be shared. Today I'll post about my visits to the mountains.
Day Trip to Kananaskis Country
I had never been to Kananaskis and it's so beautiful. Yes, there are a few pics of a man...and yep, I have a boyfriend, I'll have to post about that another day as well.
The bf and I were in Olds, Alberta, which is roughly two hours from Kananaskis Country. BF is a seasoned Kananaskis traveller and wanted to show me this spot. The weather had been horrible that week! We managed to find a day where it wasn't raining cats and dogs, packed up the dogs, and went for a drive. Ohhhh my. One beautiful scene after another.
Of course I brought Maggie. She's a trooper but got cold so she hung out in my camelback (which is the perfect size for her!!) for part of the day.
The BF and Blue (a gorgeous and loving weinheimer) hung out for a bit of fishing. The reflection of the lake is amazing.
Blue ventured out for a swim...it was too cold for the rest of us.
BF says he sees a grizzly about 50% of his visits to Kananaskis Country. We've been there twice and I've seen a couple of cubs twice.
Maggie still doesn't understand that she's little...she's certainly the boss of the dog pack.
It was just a short day trip but I felt like I could breathe better!!! Mountains, no cell service, it was amazing.
First Camping Trip
BF sold his travel trailer but kept a little truck camper- which both of us prefer. It's compact but roomy enough to hang out in if it's raining and I had the best sleep!
A couple of weeks from our day trip we decided to take the ultimate relationship test - going camping together in +30*C heat. With 2 dogs.
Blue is unbelievably patient with Maggie...she regularly sleeps on him, stands on his head to get a better view, and tries to chase him away. He's just the best.
Another beautiful view.
Our site! We got there too late for a lakefront site but we were happy anyway!
I realized that I still have some Madagascar blood in me. This medium sized spider was crawling on the inside of my shirt near my stomach. I squished him with my shirt, got rid of the body, and kept on with whatever I was doing...thinking nothing of it. Pre-Madagascar spiders would freak me out!
Diva
Supper of champions. Steak and Greek Salad. Forgot the mushrooms and onions at home.
We need to get one of those leashes that ties Maggie and Blue together for these walks. Both dogs do fine off-leash but this is BEAR country...so we keep them tied up.
It was a short stay and we went home the next day but had a great time. I am pretty much in love with lower Kananaskis Lake...and will be back soon.
They are so cool with each other!!!
We passed the camping test. Maybe not the best picture of us...but it's on the internet now...so we're official? (In all seriousness, dating someone is a bit of a big deal for me...I haven't seriously dated since I moved back to Alberta...and it's great to find someone that loves to get outdoors and accepts me for exactly the way I am this very moment. It's a very new relationship...but I'm having a great time).
