Life in Podunk

My blog used to be a holy place where I would write nearly every day. Some breakthrough, some kind of adventure, daily life ramblings…whatever. I miss my little blog (not enough to pay for a proper website again) and it surprised me to see that my last post was in July.

So much has happened since then, in six month’s time I feel like a different person almost…but looking back, not much has changed in my life.

For anyone unfamiliar to the term “Podunk”, it can be described as, “ a small town regarded as typically dull or insignificant”. These are my favourite kinds of towns…and I spend my time between Edmonton and Podunk, Alberta*.

(*not the actual name of the town, in case you’re not picking up my joke here).

Summer was full of adventures, a trip to Vancouver, a few camping trips. Fall was softball shenanigans fuelled by low-carb alcoholic spritzers & laughter. And now it’s winter.

Real winter with a lot of snow (although much less in Podunk).

Maggie is still kickin’ it. She had an eye issue turned into an anxiety fuelled $3500 nightmare with countless vet trips. Al to confirm that she’s wickedly healthy for her age but is now blind in one eye and the other eye has partial vision…she can ham it up & play blind dog every so often, but usually she forgets about it and runs around & gets into mischievous trouble, as always.

They gave her a superhero cape the last one she went for her eye checkup. Man…these vets really ham it on.

I haven’t had many adventures as of late, but I managed to go watch two Podunk hockey teams battle it out.

It’s just great to be indoors without a mask! (While seated, of course).

And we’ve managed to take in some nature in the Mountainview/Spruceview Counties.

First, a trout farm

I long for a real camera like I used to have…maybe one day, but for now my phone will work. This was a great place to walk about with the dogs and get in some air after a particularly heavy week.

Speaking of dogs,

Maggie & Blue are less than thrilled to be hanging out together…but they feed off of each other’s energy. Maggie keeps Blue in line and I think Blue keeps Maggie young(er).
Here in Podunk the dogs get lots of exercise, but Maggie refuses to run behind/beside the car like Blue does when we take him for a run. haha.

Blue has only ran away twice in the past month…both on my watch. One night he was gone for hours & came home covered in cow shit. He had a great time but he takes years off of my life when he does that!!!!!

The weather has been kinda gloomy or the roads have been crappy, so no trips to the mountains this winter (yet). A walk near Glennifer Lake is always nice & nearby. Both dogs loved running around but Maggie got too cold and hit out inside my jacket.

For now, I’ll be finishing off the rest of my Christmas gifts & sending out some Christmas cards. Maggie was a great subject again this year and out at-home photo shoot cracked me up…she loves the camera.

2021 has been a year unlike any other (again). The ups & downs have been quite a ride…& will continue to be. This year, things seem to be ending on a high note. I cannot believe everything that has happened in 12 short months. No real external life changes…but everything inside me feels different. I’m getting to a happier place, although shakily. I’m very lucky in many ways & want to continue on this crazy ride.
